SOAP (continuing kitchen sink, Drama, gritty or procedural drama. The soap sub genre can be set either in a community, workplace or institution. Procedural drama is a style, or sub-sub genre within kitchen sink drama that involves technical detail of employment rather than character studies. Traditional community based soaps initially portrayed a slice of life therefore I consider them to be kitchen sink dramas, rather than melodramatic.
