Retail Chains and some Facilities in Bridgwater

I shall start of with the food and clothes shop as they are the biggest and most important purchases.

Food

Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons, Farmfoods, Iceland and a small Asda supermarket. = These are the cheapest places to buy food.  Aldi and Lidl are a German retail chain.  Their produce comes from a variety of places around the world.  Morrisons took over Safeway a few years ago.  Originally orientated from northern England, Morrisons in Bridgwater has started to introduce more its own brand of goods meaning that there tends to be less of the other brands.  This gives it a reputation of being one of the cheapest supermarket chains.  Asda also prides itself in being one of the cheapest Supermarkets.  Farmfoods and Iceland both sell cheap frozen produce.

Asda was taken over by the American supermarket chain Wal Mart and although it was known as a shop that sells not only food, it wasn't until the takeover that more Asda shops popped up around the country. Unfortunately this has led to criticism in some quarters that supermarkets discourage shoppers from purchasing goods in more traditional small shops.  The introduction of so many supermarkets in a small town has seen the smaller shops struggle and an independent toy & music shop have all closed since.

Although Bridgwater's Asda store stocks CD's, DVD's, magazines, books, toys, clothes and even electrical items, its small size often means that you may be unable to find particular items that you are looking for, so you need to shop for certain items somewhere else.

Sainsburys, Tesco Metro, Co-Op= Mid range food outlets.  The Tescos' superstores are much cheaper than the Metros and the local council have been given permission to build one in town.  However there is a lot of controversy about it.

Clothing

New Look, Select, Shoe Box, = Value outlets.  The supermarkets' also produce a range of clothing from Sainsburys (TU) and Asda (George)

Next (plus a wholesellers outlet. Their previous retail outlet must still be up for lease.  Superdrug also had 2 outlets in the town for probably the same reason)= Mid range outlets

Soccer World= The type of clothing that they sell in this retailer may be of higher value, it's still widely worn on a daily basis by folks who aren't even participating in sport.
